GUINGONA PARK
Between E. Luna and A.D Curato Sts. and J.C Aquino Ave.
Guingona Park is located at what use to be the public square or "plaza" of Butuan for many years. It is home to a large Acacia tree that is more than a century old. On its grounds is the Shrine of the Philippine Flag in Mindanao to commemorate the first formal raising of the Philippine flag in Mindanao on January 17,1899. The giant flag stays hoisted there night and day. The Rizal monument was done by the famous Filipino sculpture, Garcia Velarde, in 1935 and this qualifies to be an important Cultural Property under the Cultural Heritage Act of 2009.
Known as one of the most peaceful and cleanest places in the Philippines, Butuan is one of the best places to live in the country. It boasts itself as one of the cities with most historical value. The local government and the people exerts relentless efforts in preserving the rich chronicle of Butuan and continues to maintain its cleanliness to entice more tourists.
When in Butuan, one of the best locations to spend a leisurely walk with someone you love (or even someone you don’t) is at Rizal Park located near Saint Joseph Cathedral – one of the two main churches of the city, the other one is Sto. Nino Shrine.

Shades at Rizal Park during noontime may be limited but still few visit the place because of its unwinding ambiance albeit it’s in the city center.
Rizal Park is located along Jose C. Aquino Avenue fronting the Police Station. About 200 meters to the east is the first bridge (Magsaysay Bridge) which connects the city center to the rural areas. Across the street going north are Almont Hotel, Banco Filipino and Lucianan Inn. Dunkin Donuts, Greenwich and Chowking are nearby.
